Travel Basketball Weekly Wrap-Up

The travel basketball season has officially kicked off for the PVYB teams in the ICBA.  It was an action packed weekend with all 18 of our teams in action.  Here are some of the highlights of this weekends games:

3rd grade boys:
The 3rd boys got off to a hot start to the season beating Towamencin twice over the weekend.  Friday night the boys came out on top by a score of 30-12.  Defense was the key in this one, with PVYB creating points off of their 23 steals, 6 of which were provided by Luke Tuturice and 4 by Tommy Wuerstle.  Nick Harken led the scoring with 12 points while Hiatt Smith and Jason King chipped in with 6 apiece.

Saturday's game went much like the first for PVYB.  Defense being the key to the quick 9-0 first quarter lead, which enabled them to sail from there.  Harken again led all scorers with 12 while Smith with 8 and Tuturice with 6 also played big roles.

4th Grade girls:
The 4th Grade PVYB Girls team played their first ICBA game this past Sunday against Audubon and started the season off with a strong 13-5 win.  PV jumped out to an early lead thanks to buckets by Saydi Daye and Opal Sparling.  The team’s aggressive defense and strong rebounding held Audubon to only 5 points.  Sammie Faella led the team with 5 points and 9 rebounds while Peyton Mears led the team with 4 steals.

4th Grade boys:
The 4th boy were cancelled due to weather.
5th Girls Orange:
The Defending Champion 5th Grade Girls Orange started the season with an impressive 36-6 victory over Fox Chase.  Smother defense and selfless offense provided a 16 to 3 lead at half time.  The offense was paced by Quinn Boettinger (8pts and 10rebs) and Grace Miley(7pts and 9rebs).  Allie Matasich and Lena Stein chipped in with 6 points each.

5th Girls White:

The 5th Girls White had 2 games over the weekend and went 2-0.  Saturday, the girls used a great team defensive effort, only allowing Chestnut Hill 3 points on their way to a 14-3 victory.  Becky Taylor led all scorers with 6 points.  Addison Smith, Claire Ousey, Sophia Lanza, and Rayna Burke each scored 2 points.

In Sunday's game, Addison Smith hit a jumper from the foul line with 8.5 seconds remaining to give PVYB a dramatic come from behind 13-11 victory.  A balanced scoring effort led the way as 6 players scored in the win, with Claire Ousey leading the team with 4.

5th Boys White:
The 5th boys white picked up 2 wins over the weekend, beating Lenape Valley 38-32 and following that up with a decisive 38-26 victory over Council Rock.

5th Boys Orange:
The 5th boys orange played great defense but just couldn't pull out the victory in a tight 26-18 loss at home to Huntingdon Valley.

6th Girls White:
The 6th girls white lost an exciting and well played game to CBAA on Sunday, 29-26, fighting back to tie an 11pt 4th quarter deficit.  Madison Gorman had 8 points while Leah Pfeiffer and Megan Kupetz added 6 each.  Maddie Borzillo battled on the glass all day leading the team with 11 rebounds with Denise Hurd also fighting her way to 7 boards.

6th Girls Orange:
In another exciting 6th grade girls matchup, the orange team fought back from 8 pts down in the 3rd quarter to fight back to tie it on an Audrey Powers 3 pointer with 15 seconds to play.  A questionable foul call led to Lenape making 1 of 2 free throws to win it 26-25.  Powers led the PV scoring with 9 points and Ella Reiter put up 5.  Rain Boyd and Reiter helped lead the comeback on the defensive end with harassing defense.

6th Boys White:
The 6th Boys white lost a hard fought home opener to Whitpain on Sunday, 53-46.

6th Boys Orange:
The 6th Boys Orange had a busy week on the hardwood.  They started the week with a runner-up finish in the 2018 Renegades Holiday Jam.  The boys qualified for the championship game after beating the host team in a nail biter, winning 31-30 followed by a convincing win over Towamencin 51-35. Unfortunately, in the rematch against the host Renegades, the 6B boys fell 51-63 in a highly competitive match. It was a full team effort with Cole Hebling and Luke Shanaman leading the offensive production along with some standout defense by Kyle Bruce and Drew Kenworthy.

In Sundays ICBA start, the boys ran into a very tough Boyertown team, losing that contest 41-27.

7th Girls(pictured above):
The 7th grade girls ICBA season got underway this weekend with the girls coming out on the losing end of both contests to division leaders.  The 7th girls, having to deal with key contributors coming off of injuries fought hard each contest.
