One of our major goals in our travel program is to expose these players to a more competitive and higher level development basketball league where we teach the fundamentals of the game of basketball (over and beyond a normal recreation league experience), focusing on the development of team concepts and ideals, as well as individual skills, This is a large commitment for players, coaches as well as parents. We strive to teach participants to compete to their highest level of ability, while learning to win with dignity and lose with class. We provide a safe and abuse-free environment and expect players, coaches and fans to be respectful of each other and all officials and opponents

Another goal of our travel programs is to get these players ready for our Perkiomen Valley High School & Middle School District teams so we are looking for players that live in the Perkiomen Valley School District. We also understand that we have other schools that are part of our community so we welcome these players to try out for our travel teams but need to limit the number of these players (that live out of the PV School District) that can be considered and selected on a PVYB travel team.  Effective October 2011 preference will be given to players that live in the PV School District.  Additional roster spots for players who live outside the PV school district will be considered by the board (e.g. we will look at things like: number of players trying out for the team, does the player have a home school district supported travel program, etc.).  Players who live in one of our neighboring school districts (Springford, Methacton, Souderton) must first tryout for their home school district travel program before being considered to play in our travel program.  This (out of school district ) rule applies to new players wanting to tryout for one of our travel teams. [ If you are already on one of our PV travel teams from the previous season then you will be “grandfathered” in and this rule will be waived ]

There is an additional charge to play travel, in addition to the regular PVYB registration fees, to handle the extra expenses of uniforms, gym time, referee fees and tournaments.

No player is guaranteed a spot on a team so we encouraged every player to make all the tryouts so that the coaches can evaluate them fairly.

PVYB looks for coaches that can meet the demanding time commitment, have strong basketball knowledge of the game from playing and/or coaching, and can organize and manage practices and games. At least as important as that skill set is that the coach can keep winning games in perspective, handle varying levels of parental interest, create a team atmosphere, and understand the important impact a coach can have on a young player. The PVYB Board of Directors will pick / evaluate each coach as well as be very hands-on in selecting all travel team players.
